Steep
is a feature skiing video dvd documentary about bold adventure,
exquisite athleticism and the pursuit of a perfect moment
on skis. It is the story of big mountain skiing, ...a
sport that barely existed 35 years ago. It started in
the 1970s in the mountains above Chamonix, France, where
skiers began to attempt ski descents so extreme that they
appeared almost suicidal. Men like Anselme Baud and Patrick
Vallencant were inspired by the challenge of skiing where
no one thought to ski before. Now, two generations later,
some of the worldâ€s greatest skiers
pursue a sport where the prize is not winning, but simply
experiencing the exhilaration of skiing and exploring
big, wild, remote mountains. STEEP features many of the
sportâ€s greatest athletes including
Bill Briggs, Stefano De Benedetti, Eric Pehota, Glen Plake,
Shane McConkey, Seth Morrison, Chris Davenport, Ingrid
Backstrom and Andrew McLean. The man who is often described
as the greatest big mountain skier of all, the late Doug
Coombs, is the character at the center of STEEP. He died
in a skiing accident in La Grave, France, in April, 2006,
just days after being filmed for STEEP. His rich life
and tragic death reveal the essential question at the
heart of big mountain skiing: How does a skier weigh the
risks versus the rewards of a sport where the possibility
of dying is ever-present? STEEP was shot on High Definition
and on film in Alaska, Wyoming, Canada, France and Iceland.

Making
a ski movie is a constant battle of conditions, terrain
and travel. Our season began by driving all over the country
chasing down handrails, as it continued, global
warming and inconsistent snowfall patterns became
our biggest obstacle. This made us quickly learn that
we had to be on-call, ready to be anyplace at any time.
From greasing handrails in New York to perfect conditions
in Alaska, our crew was there at a moments notice. Often
it meant waking up at 6 am and digging for hours, building
a jump that wouldnt be hit until the following day.
Or being stuck in AK for days on end watching the snow
fall, anticipating the moment it clears. Then only to
negotiate slides, lines, and exposures that challenged
even our most seasoned riders. In the end we were rewarded
with the most technical urban, progressive backcountry,
and big mountain lines that has redefined skiing to us
Enjoy.

Theory-3
Media and Poorboyz Productions present PNW. This 2 disc,
2 skiing videos movie, high definition freeskiing project
will document the travels and locations visited by focusing
a unique group of athletes and an entire season on the endless
areas of Alaska, British Columbia, Washington and Montana.
The
1st films layout will be broken up into segments
covering the intricate highway systems, with the joint
travels of a athletes and crew linking the PNW in to a
smooth flowing production. The 2nd film will be arranged
and re edited much more of a 'typical' ski film to provide
straight action, and pay off for the hard working athletes
of Theory-3 Media.
PNW will not be just your typical rider
segmented film, but rather a production documenting the
travels and locations visited by focusing a unique group
of athletes and an entire season on endless areas of Alaska,
British Columbia, and Washington. The film's layout will
be broken up into segments covering the intricate highway
systems, with the joint travels of a few select athletes
and crew linking the areas of the PNW into a smooth flowing
production. With lots of research, and the impulsive choices
of athletes and crew, we expect the body of the film to
be made up of random highway towns and certain specific,
but also unplanned backcountry sledding/touring locales.
The skiing within the film will cover all aspects of backcountry
jumping, big mountain skiing, urban/terrain park skiing,
and the ideal combination of all the above.
|
In
addition to the feature 'documentary', the PNW product
will include a 2nd DVD focusing on a re-edited, rider
segmented film, with new footage from outside of the
PNW, and a slightly more 'typical' layout. The riders
will be giving his folder's worth of footage, and will
choose each specific shot for his ideal additional segment.
It will also include an athlete commentary covering
who, what, when, where and why, that rider chose those
shots for his specific segment. We hope to achieve two
exciting films that can truly cover the dynamic that
makes up the sport of skiing, the Northwest and everything
the riders, and production crew put into their short
run snow filled season. Riders: James Heim, Charley
Ager, PY Leblanc, Brandon Kelly, Justin Dorey, Joe Schuster,
Riley Leboe, Charles Grant, Max Hill, Kevin Hjertaas,
Colin Puskas, Johnny Five, Erich Kunz, Andrew Mclver,
Ian McIntosh and Josh Stack. Bonus: 2 edits, Crash segment,
Interviews, B Roll Footage Segments, Commentary on a
few near accidents and more. Locations: The Pacific
Northwest - British Columbia, Washington, Alaska, Alberta,
and Orgeon. Plus additional footage from the Candide
Invitational and other private shoots.
Highlights:
Film project also includes 1-2 additional segments within
the PNW documentary covering special event's, super
park shoots, special trips from outside of the Pacific
North West. These segments will be tied into the film
with a PNW hook to be used as a recess between other
segments for issues with weather, athlete schedules,
etc within the Pacific North West.

Return
of the Nina ski video DVD - Right on Brother ProductionsIn
the winter of 98/'99, during the La Niña storm cycle,
the Mt. Baker Ski Area received just less than 100 feet
of snow. At a total of 1140 inches, this was the most snow

years later, following a season of drought brought on by

ever recorded in one month! Right
On Brothers Return of the Niña begins with
the world record season and follows various local athletes
(skiers, snowboarders, and telemarkers) as they progress
over the next seven years. Characterizations of these athletes,
Mt. Baker, and La Niña will tell the story from a
catastrophic avalanche in 99 to La Niñas
triumphant return in 2006. The film concludes with 16mm
footage from 06-07, and sets up for next year,
which is said to be another La Niña season and may
see even more snow-fall than 98/99. Athletes:
